The phone numbers from which the actor received the calls in the last three days suggest they were Pakistan numbers, they added.
"A non-cognisable case has been lodged against an unidentified person for threatening her of dire consequences if she continues to work in 'Mahi Mahi', shooting of which is under way," Assistant Police Commissioner, Dilip Suryavanshi, told PTI.
"She was told to withdraw from the movie in which she is playing the lead role," he said.
Last night, the actor approached the police and lodged a complaint at Oshiwara police station, he added.
"She received at least five threatening calls on her mobile phone. The numbers displayed on her mobile are from Pakistan," said Datta Sankhe, inspector of the police station.
Kapoor is playing the lead role in 'Mahi Mahi', being directed by Faisal Saif depicting a love story between a Shiya boy and a Sunni girl. Avantika plays the Sunni girl, Husna Khan.
