Melbourne, November 6: In Australia, getting a divorce is much easier than acquiring driver's licence, thanks to the Family Court in the country which has introduced "e-filing" for ending a marriage.

As per the new provision, divorce applicants can complete the administrative process online.

About 260 people have "e-filed" their application for divorce since September 26, when the system was introduced.

For availing the service, applicants register at familycourt.gov.au, upload a scanned copy of their marriage certificate and pay a 430-Australian dollar fee by credit card.

Users are then asked to print off an affidavit and have it sworn, before uploading it and arranging for the papers to be served.

And cases with no children involved don''t even require a court appearance.

However, the novel arrangements haven''t gone down too well with everybody.

Australian Family Association spokesman John Morrissey yesterday called for online filing to be scrapped.

"It is not just that it makes it easier, it makes it much more accessible, a spur of the moment thing. I can imagine someone throwing his or her hands up and jumping on the computer." He said divorce rates, at 20-year lows, would climb," The Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"We have always linked ease of divorce with people rushing into marriage and also rushing out of marriage," he said.
