Give us more arms to counter India: Pakistan tells US

New Delhi, October 29:  Pakistan expressed concern about recent big defence deals concluded by India, and asked for more military support by US for balance of power in the region.

During a meeting with Clinton, Gilani called on the US to mediate "between Pakistan and India on core interests i.e. Kashmir (and) water issues as well as help Pakistan enhance its defence capability to maintain balance of power," said a statement issued by the premier's office.

Meanwhile US President Barack Obama today signed a USD 680-billion defence budget bill that provides USD 2.3 billion military assistance to Pakistan with tough condition to make sure that the funds are not squandered or diverted to affect the "balance of power in the region".

Obama said the Defence Authorisation Bill for 2010 eliminates some of the waste and inefficiency in the defence process that will better protect the nation, troops and save taxpayers tens of billions of dollars.

"The bill includes a commitment to the stability of Afghanistan and Pakistan, expanded programmes to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of rogue states and terrorists, and a reformed system of defence acquisition to save taxpayer money," said House Majority Leader Steny H Hoyer.

The military aid money to Pakistan for the fiscal 2010 as mentioned in the bill has two major components -- USD 1.6 billion for the Coalition Support Fund and USD 700 million for the Pakistan Counterinsurgency Capability Fund.

For the USD 1.6 billion Coalition Support Fund, the bill would require that, before any more such money is spent, the Obama administration must certify that doing so is in the US national interest and will not adversely affect the region's balance of power.

India feels that the American assistance to Pakistan should be more focused on building counter-insurgency capabilities rather than conventional defence equipment which can be diverted for other purposes.

Give us more arms to counter India: Pakistan tells US
by Mr. Chrysantha Wijeyasing on 2010-07-29 00:00:00
If Pakistan does not get the weapons that she wants from the US, Pakistan will turn to China who will be more than happy to oblige. But since Pakistan's main problem is the internal warfare with the Taliban, such misplaced priorities will backfire on Islamabad.

Pak should also consider China, Iran ans Afghanistan as a threat and inorder to meet these challanges it should get all the US help. While we are at it they should also consider help for little Georgia which comsiders Russia as a threat. Let us also think about the tiny neighbours surrounding India who off and on start making noises against India when the history and the world knows India never invades but gets invaded even by a bunch tribersmen who took 40% of Jammmu and Kashmir!!!

Pakistan fights for Islam, India for freedom
by Gratian Dsouza on 2009-10-30 00:00:00
Even if the US gives all its weapons to Pakistan still it can never fight a war against India because pakistanis have no will power to fight. Pakistanis fight in the name of Islam and Indians fight for their freedom and God always supports those who fight for freedom because God loves freedom. Even if the US fights alongside pakistan, India will still defeat both of them because we Indians fight for our survival and our freedom but pakistanis fight for islamic dominance by spreading terrorism. The US is a terrorist supporter and pakistanis are their spoilt child. May God destroy these terrorists and bring peace and happiness to my beloved India where freedom is cherished and nurtured.
