Kashmiri Muslims must protect Hindus: Chidambaram
Updated Thu 5th Nov 2009 12:07:09 / Published Thu 5th Nov 2009 10:21:07
Jammu, Nov 5:  Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said it was the responsibility of the majority Muslim community in Jammu and Kashmir to protect the Hindus in the state.

"The golden rule of democracy is that the majority has to protect the minority and its sub-rule is that those who are in majority at the national level may be in minority at the state level, which is true in J&K", Chidambaram said addressing Congress leaders and workers at the PCC headquarters here.

"Here, it is the responsibility of the majority community (Muslims) to protect the Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir", he said.

While the Sikhs in Punjab have to protect the Hindus, in Tamil Nadu, it is the Tamils who will have to protect the non-Tamils there, he said adding it is not the religious minority alone but even the linguistic and ethnic majority has to take up the role of protecting the minorities.

Referring to the dialogue process in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the Centre would be holding a dialogue with all shades of political opinion in the state.

Chidambaram -and his Muslims
by Harish on 2009-11-06 00:00:00
What nonsense are you talking Mr Chidambaram? Do you really think that the Muslims who drove the Kashmiri Pundits out of their homes are now going to look after them? Is it not the responsibility of the Indian Government to protect it's citizens regardless of race and religion? With regards to the comments by Mr Krishnan I would say; thank God there was a partition! Otherwise imagine all those evil minded barbarians that we call Pakistanis, living amongst us! or rather you in India!

Chidambaram -Home Minister
by Krishnan on 2009-11-06 00:00:00
Now we do not need Taliban. It would be better if he talks less and works more. Congress broke the country on religion, then language and another set it on fire with Mandal. Chidambaram people have no problem. I think congress and its rank and file is the problem. If there was no congress there would be no partition. A big and strong India would have been ruling. You do not have to go to Harvard to learn that.

Golden Misrule
by Rahu on 2009-11-05 00:00:00
A stupid rule. This means that non-terrorists (the majority) must protect terrorsists (minority). Law abiding people must protect criminals etc. What is it with Congress that they are so keen on dividing the society into groups and make group-based policies? How will unity ever come in the nation when there's only group based policies? Besides, if majorities have plights, then why did Chidambaran not mention the plights of the minorities? It was his golden opportunity to do so. He missed it when he had the greatest chance. Can Chidambaran also state what the plight of the minorities is? Is it perhaps that the minorities continuously point out that they're different from the majority? And therefore need special treatment? And never cooperate with or support the majority from which they demand protection and special rights?
