"Pakistani troops fired 14 mortar shells on our positions in Keran sector of Kupwara district around 8.30 pm yesterday. Our troops retaliated with small arms," Lt Col J S Brar said.
He said the bodies of two intruders were recovered during search of the area on Friday morning, adding that an identity card of a Pakistani Army personnel was recovered from one of the deceased.
Two bags carrying two AK assault rifles, nine magazines, 290 rounds, an under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), two radio sets, a map were also recovered from their possession, Brar said.
In addition, a mobile phone with Indian Sim Card was also recovered from the scene, the spokesman said.
Taking serious note of the ceasefire violation, the Army has decided to lodge a strong protest with their Pakistani counterparts and had sought a flag meeting, he added.
"The intention of mortar firing was to push the armed militants into the valley," the spokesman said.
This is the second infiltration bid which was successfully foiled by the troops.

Lt. Col. J. S. Brar, thank you for retaliating with small arms only. What you can do is sell the big arms to Hizbul Mujaideen or some terrorist group for lots of money. Why the hell does the Indian Government give you armymen sophisticated weapons if you are going to fire only small arms. India can save reduce the defence budget by giving pistols which can scare away those pigs. When they fire 14 mortars, the Indian Army has a change, fire 500 mortars so that the whole area is shaken up. This way they will know the retailiatory fire will be hell for them. Lodging protest is childish and stupid in terms of warfare and the whole world laughs at our childishness. Give them hell when they fire even one bullet. Their fingers should shiver when holding the trigger if India gives them hell. Jai Hind.
