New Delhi, January 29: Ram Gopal Varma has developed a habit of surprising cinegoers. After surprising with a string of mediocre films which were duds at box office, Ramu is back with ‘Rann’.

Never the one to follow set rules, Ramu takes you inside the world of media in ‘Rann’and exposes the games heavyweights play.

‘Rann’ is a true reflection of our times when news hungry TV channels can go to any extent for commercial benefits. Only TRPs matter and sensationalising story is the order of the day.

‘Rann’ throws light on the politician-industrialist-media nexus and shows that there are good and bad guys in every field. And media is no exception.

Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) is the founder of India 24/7, a private news channel. A man of ethics, Harshvardhan Malik believes in upholding journalistic values. However, his ethics comes in the way of profit and India 24/7 faces tough times in the TRPs driven media industry.

However, for Jai (Sudeep), his son, India 24/7 is nothing more than a business and he is desperate to make it profitable anyhow. Jai conspires against the ruling Prime Minister with the help of Opposition leader Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal). India 24/7 reporter Purab (Riteish Deshmukh) takes it upon himself to investigate the truth while Vijay Malik remains unaware of the entire conspiracy.

Make no mistake. ‘Rann’ is a serious film and it is for those who enjoy serious cinema. The writing is impressive and convincing. And Ramu has kept it simple. He has a story to tell and he just does that.

Amit Roy's cinematography deserves credit. Dialogues and background score are icing on the cake.

Amitabh Bachchan seems to be getting better with age. He shines once again. Sudeep has played his part well. Riteish is decent.

Paresh Rawal looks good in a negative role after a long time and one can only salute the versatility of this wonderful actor.

Mohnish Bahl makes the most of the role he gets. Rajat Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Neetu Chandra and Gul Panag played their part well.

‘Rann’ will have a good run at the box office. Don’t wait, run for ‘Rann’.
